Conduct Disorder
It is characterized by a repetitive and persistent pattern of dis social, aggressive, or defiant conduct. Such behaviour, when at its most extreme for the individual, should amount to major violations of age-appropriate social expectations, and is therefore more severe than ordinary childish mischief or adolescent rebelliousness.
The following features are often suggestive of the presence of conduct disorder:
- The child often bullies, threatens or intimidates others; often initiates physical fights; is physically cruel to others; engages in inappropriate activities such as robbery, stealing, shoplifting, forgery, sexual activity, smoking, alcohol etc
- The child tends to cause destruction to property and may engage in fire setting.
- The child is usually manipulative and lies to obtain goods or favours.
- The child engages in serious violation of rules; often stays out at night despite parental prohibition; tends to run away from home.
